Membership Software
By Bradley Charbonneau | Filed under Help, Reviews, Software
I’m looking into membership software beyond what WordPress can do for a few organizations that have 100+ members and some specific needs (e.g. printing labels, view members by e.g. city, newsletters, etc.). While WordPress might be able to do some of these, I’m currently looking for software that might be able to do it all–and run a nice-looking website. I’ll keep this post updated with what I find. I’ve just done a search for comparisons or reviews of these packages, but can’t find much at all.
Requirements
- web based
- relatively inexpensive (i.e. not $50,000/year, but maybe $1,000 or $ per user/year)
- user and admin friendly
- easily customizable style/templates (preferably CSS)
Products
- Setup fee: $150
- Cost: $0.40/user/month (175 users = $70/month)
- Pro: nice event management with payment
- Con: looks like customization is difficult/expensive
- Setup fee: $500
- Cost: $60/month (basic), $85/month (complete (full-website))
- Pro: has Membership Complete offer ($85) that does the membership and the website
- Con:
- setup fee: $0
- Cost: $0.30/user/month (175 users = $52.50/month)
- Pro:

- Pro:
- Con: this is a fork from Drupal and personally I’m not going back down that path

Did you pick a software program (membership)? I just started looking and came across Club Sentry looks promising for me.

You should take a look at membergate for a high end solution, or amember for a lower priced solution, or possibly infusionsoft.

This software is not web based but it may be of interest?

MASS – Membership Administration Software Solution. This membership software is a comprehensive product that is Windows based with the option to have a Web server host the database, which then allows for the Web browser module to give access to both end-users and administrators.
The price depends on the number of concurrent users (not Web end-users) and the number of member records. The price can therefore vary between $199 (Single-user up to 1000 records) and upwards.
Contact the Company and they are responsive to your requirements.

Did you find one that you were happy with? I have just started to look. The prices vary so much and some have just way more options then one would need. This is the first place that I have see that lists proper systems/software. Also there seem to be a lot a rubbish out there as well. It is hard to figure out which ones are proper systems and which ones are over priced/rubbish. Has anyone seen a more extensive list anywhere? What did you settle on?

Matt: We ended up going with MemberClicks. It’s been good for what it’s supposed to do (events, RSVPs, calendars, newsletters, etc.), but still we have their main site (batw.org) set up in WordPress so they can add content more easily.
Actually, what caught my eye recent was Big Tent. Looks like it does everything we wanted and for, uh, free. Too good to be true? I’d love to know.
Thanks for commenting, Matt.
