“Terminate an account” and do techy cartwheels.

Terminate. It just sounds so Arnold Schwarzenegger, doesn’t it? I’m feeling pretty pumped up as I terminate the last few sites on my reseller hosting server.

If you’re even thinking about setting up a website design company (or anything where you might need to set up a domain and hosting for a client), you’re probably going to need to help your client decide where to host their website and email. In case at this point you’re practically panting and on the edge of your seat saying, “Just tell me!” Here’s what I would recommend:

  1. Managed WordPress Hosting
  2. Google Apps for Work (link to 20% off coupon)

That’s it. You can suggest that and call it a day. You won’t have to maintain email or website hosting because both of those links go to companies that do that for you.

I’m sorry, I should back up.

If you actually like being on call 24/7 for technical questions or think it’s just plain fun to talk with people about SMTP settings from a hotel (and why it might be different than from home or office), then by all means go the path of reseller hosting where you provide a cPanel for each of your clients and you manage it all using WHM. If that’s what you’d like to do, then you should stop reading this now.

This is more geared towards people who are interested in making less money with zero hassle. The above paragraph describes more money with (probable) major hassle, stress and just plain no fun.

In fact, this post is mostly geared towards those of us who have been on the High Maintenance chuck wagon for a while and who can appreciate (and do techy cartwheels) when we kill off one last account on a server that pretty much cuts the cords and gives you freedom you hadn’t know possible in the managed server space.

Fun, right? Enjoy.
